Last week, my Zumba instructor offered me one song during her class: “Create a dance, Papi! You have one week. Don’t let me down.” Oh my!
I can lead Kickboxing, Step, and even Strength, but to actually create and lead a zumba dance routine? That’s definitely out of my comfort zone.
Hell yeah, I’m totally down for it!
So, I found a song, showed it her, she found the spot for me, and I got to work on a new dance. The song I chose was a two count, slower Soca song. I built a relatively simple routine, non-impact, and what I hoped would be a lot of fun.
Based on the screams from the audience, I think that they enjoyed my routine. I really enjoyed leading this dance. In addition to that one song, I was allowed to lead 2 random other songs. This caught me off guard, and unprepared. But I winged it, and did some freestyle Zumba. One of my friends joined me on the stage and helped me out with the third song.
It was a blast, and I’m going to continue building zumba routines. Once I get a good 15-20 routines down, I’ll go for my zumba certification.
Check out a clip of my dance, and the class…
