Michael Jackson’s holiday?
This is my site Written by ARodomus on February 26, 2010 – 9:45 pm
I’ve been having a discussion with a fellow twitterer, it seems some folks believe that MJ was enough of a humanitarian that he should have a holiday named after him.

Now no offense to those whom believe this, but to me the idea is absolutely absurd! I love Michael Jackson’s music as much as anyone, as a matter of fact I am listening to it right now!

“Dangerous, that girl is so dangerous.”

Anyway, I’m sure Michael donated money, and helped people in need, I mean wasn’t he part of “We are the world”. I know these things.

My argument however was based on a guy like Martin Luther King, MLK, who does have a holiday named after him already. The Reverend Martin Luther King did much more for people than Michael has and ever could. We only know about MLK because of his efforts, his peaceful work for equality amongst all people are the reason we know about him at all. We know about MJ first and foremost because of his music.

Again this isn’t to say MJ didn’t do good for people (and possibly not good to others as per allegations). But the point is that nothing Michael did (good) measures up to what Martin Luther King did. So how can he deserve the same privilege and honor as MLK?

There are many more deserving people out there that have done plenty of charity work, died and don’t have a “holiday” named after them. Many, and I’m sure you could throw names into this list.

This actually makes me think about Barrack Obama getting the Nobel Peace prize. Man, I won’t even get into that topic, and for the record, no I’m not a republican hating on Obama. I just simply call BS as I see it.

So Michael Jackson was a pioneer, a great entertainer, but let’s not forget, he was primarily just that, an entertainer. That’s why we know of him.

We know of MLK because of his efforts for equal rights for the black people. I would argue that without MLK there could very well be no MJ to even talk about!

We can’t put them on the same level, they did very different things. I will always be a fan of MJ, I love his music and what he left us in his art.

But no, he does not deserve a holiday. Sorry.

Of course this is my personal opinion, feel free to disagree, and please if you do, then do share your opinion, I’d love to hear it.

My fellow twitterers know I’m open to listening, and I love feedback. We grow and learn from one another.

In closing, we will always miss MJ, and MLK. Thank you both for your contributions to human kind and God bless.
